Indepth Arts News:
"Boy with Iguanas and Other Selections from the Photography Collection"
2000-08-05 until 2000-10-01
Columbus Museum of Art
Columbus, OH,
USA United States of America
Take a fresh look at the Museum’s expanding photography holdings and
learn the art of building a meaningful collection. By placing new additions
side-by-side with important mainstays of the collection, this exhibition
demonstrates how curators choose new work to complement and diversify a
relatively young collection.
The Museum purchased seven photographs from
the Artificial Reality exhibition of Soviet Socialist Realism, as well as works
ranging from a nineteenth-century carbon print by the celebrated Adolphe
Braun to contemporary color photographs made in Honduras and Mexico by
Jeff Becom. It also includes a four-part panorama of the Grand Canyon by
Joseph Vitone. The exhibition features the works of such heavyweights as
Alfred Stieglitz and Harry Callahan and also the works of emerging artists.
