This exhibition introduces visitors to a selection of diverse objests recently acquired by the museum, most in the last 18 months. Recent Accessions demonstrates the broad scopeof the museum's collection and explains where, when and how the Institute collects its treasures.
By displaying objects of exceptional aesthetic quality and cultural significance, an encyclopedic collection, such as the Institute's, illustrates the history of the visual arts as they developed over the centuries in cultures around the world. The Institute's curators are constantly searching for objects to fill the gaps in specific areas. A curator may also build upon an existing strength in the collection by adding yet another exceptional object.
