"Auguste Rodin: Sculptor"
2000-05-20 until 2001-01-01
Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
Montgomery, AL,
USA
Auguste Rodin was one of the historical giants of sculpture, credited with
revolutionizing the way in which sculpture was seen, made and used.
Although his vision looks less radical today, Rodin revolted against the
traditional academic style of his youth and focused on the then radical
themes of personal artistic expression, human sexuality and the inner life of
the soul.
This exhibition of bronzes by Rodin includes some of his best-known
works including The Man with the Broken Nose and figures from his greatest
ensemble, The Gates of Hell. Many of the works are on loan to the Museum
from the collections of the Iris and Gerald B. Cantor Foundation and it also
includes works belonging to the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
