"City Life: Around the Eight"
2000-08-22 until 2001-01-07
Metropolitan Museum of Art
New York, NY,
USA
During the first quarter of the 20th century, a group of American
painters known as the Eight set out to record--candidly and with a
daringly bold technique--the social and physical realities of life in
the city.
This installation features a selection of about 25 drawings
and small paintings from the Museum's collection by William Glackens,
Ernest Lawson, George Luks, Everett Shinn, and John Sloan (all
members of the Eight) and their contemporary George Bellows that
depict recreational and work activities of city dwellers of different
classes.
