Indepth Arts News: "Swell: PATRICIA PICCININI" 2000-09-07 until 0000-00-00 ArtSpace Woolloomooloo, Sydney, NS, AU
Swell is an immersive video installation that focuses on the changing nature of space, commerce and migration through the vision of a turbulent, synthetic sea. One of a sequence of works that Patricia Piccinini has called the 'Wilderness Series', Swell examines the evolving concept of 'nature' in contemporary technological society.
The sea has always been a potent metaphor for Piccinini; she considers it's depiction a way of examining the dissolution of traditional notions of space and new ideas of electronic space which increasingly define the 21st Century.
SWELL was made with the assistance of the Art Gallery of New South Wales
