"Moira Dryer: Painting"
2000-09-08 until 2000-11-04
Forum for Contemporary Art
St. Louis, MO, USA

A survay exhibition of Moira Dryer's most accomplished large-scale abstractions from 1989-1992. The late painter created panel paintings that expanded the language of abstraction with her idiosyncratic ability to balance intense emotion and whimsy, irreverence and compassion, art historical presedence and inventiveness. Dryer's abstractions remain as a lasting legacy to her skill as a painter, and her work continues to garner attention throughout North America and Europe.

Exhibitions curator Gregory Salzman describes the longevity of Dryer's work, Her work stands apart from her peers in that it restored emotionality to abstract painting, which in the 1980s had grown too cool. Her art, even today, maintains its vibrancy and edge. The Art Gallery of York University in Toronto organized the exhibition, with Salzman as guest curator. A catalogue of the exhibition - the first monograph of Dryer's work - will be available.
