"From Caligula to Constantine: Tyranny and Transformation in Roman Portraiture"

The first exhibition held in the United States or abroad to focus on how sculpted portraits of condemned
emperors like Caligula and Nero were transformed after their death or fall from power, From Caligula
to Constantine will consist of approximately 50 objects and a selection of coins from the American
Numismatic Society.
The exhibition will be complemented by a variety of scholarly and educational
programs. A catalogue accompanying the exhibition will consist of detailed entries on the individual
objects featured in the exhibition, as well as significant essays by scholars in the field.
