In 1960, John Hoppy Hopkins launched his photographic career in London,
capturing The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Marianne Faithfull on the first
wave of stardom. Simultaneously, his great passion for jazz prompted his
atmospheric images of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Louis Armstrong.
Later, Hoppy documented peace marches, poetry readings with a naked Allen
Ginsberg, and photographed twentieth century icons such as Martin Luther King
and Malcolm X. For Hoppy the Sixties were, Just a great opportunity to take pictures
of people I loved for free. This is the artists first solo exhibition in London.
