"Lee Krasner"
2000-10-06 until 2001-01-07
Brooklyn Museum of Art
Brooklyn, NY,
USA
This major touring retrospective of Brooklyn-born Lee Krasner (1908-1984),
including sixty major paintings and collages from a fifty-year period, will have
its final showing at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Included will be early
figurative work, formative Abstract Expressionist paintings made prior to, and
during, Krasner's marriage to Jackson Pollock, and oil and paper collages
made in the 1970s and early 1980s.
While Krasner has been indelibly associated
with Pollock, this show places her work in a larger context of painterly
influences - including Hans Hofmann, Willem de Kooning, Henri Matisse, and
Piet Mondrian - and chronicles her approach to pushing the limits of her own
art-making process.
