Orhan Taylan was born in Samsun, Turkey in 1941. He is a decendant of a turkish family from Thessaloniki and son of an artist mother. Taylan graduated from Roberts College and the Fine Arts Academy of Rome. His first solo exhibition was in 1968. Besides painting, his early works consist of ceramics, posters, theater designs, photography and some cinematographic work. Taylan took leading positions in artists organisations(1975-1978) and organised mural painting syumposiums in Antalya International Art Festival (1976-1978).
In 1982, he was detained by military court for three years as a political prisoner, and was supported by Amnesty International. His paintings were exhibited in London, Amsterdam and Moscow within Turkish Highlights exhibitions between 1988 and 1990. He held regular drawing and painting exhibitions in Istanbul and Ankara. His works have also been shown in exhibitions in France, Germany, U.S.A., Switzerland and Greece.
Today Orhan Taylan lives and works in Istanbul and Bodrum, Turkey.
