"Call for Entries: Marion Oliver McCaw Hall Glass Commission"
2000-11-11 until 2000-12-29
King County Public Art Program
Seattle, WA, USA United States of America

This is a national competition, open to all professional artists living in the United States. The King County Public Art Program is managing the art project for the new Marion Oliver McCaw (MOM) Hall on the Seattle Center campus. For this commission, the selected artist will work collaboratively with the project architects, LMN, to design, fabricate and install artist-designed architectural glassworks into one or more sites.

One of the premier public sites in the new design of the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall is the entrance lobby foyer that curves and sweeps to the west. As the prominent gathering place for patrons and visitors to the Hall, the lobby provides key entrances to the facility and will be visible to those inside and outside the new hall. Potential sites for a major glass commission include, but are not limited to, the grand central staircase, additional stairwells that flank the central stairs, the elevator surrounds, glass floor elements, guardrails at the balcony levels, and a cantilevered landing on the second floor balcony. An art budget of $200,000 has been set aside for the glass commission. It is anticipated that this will be augmented by credits from the construction budget depending on the scope of the artist's work. The budget is expected to cover design and fabrication of the art glass elements, artist's compensation, state sales tax and travel expenses.
