Indepth Arts News: "Nardo di Cione: Complete Alterpiece on Display after 150 Years" 2000-11-17 until 2001-02-18 Brooklyn Museum of Art Brooklyn, NY, USA
The exhibition celebrates the reunion of the Museum's Nardo di Cione altarpiece, Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints, and its 'lost' uppermost panel. The Museum acquired the main panel at the New-York Historical Society sale in 1995 and recently obtained the altarpiece's crowning pinnacle, Christ Blessing, when it resurfaced in England for the first time since being separated from the Main panel in 1851.
The altarpiece is considered the most important mid-fourteenth-century Italian painting in America, and this will be the first presentation in nearly 150 years of the work in its entirety. The exhibition will also feature related paintings by Nardo and his circle.
