The first exhibition ever to be shown in New York of the work of Charlotte
Salomon will open December 10th, 2000 and remains on view through
March 25, 2001. This exhibition includes more than 400 riveting gouaches
by this artist, who was born in Berlin and died in Auschwitz in 1943 at the
age of 26.
Executed in three primary colors, the gouaches read like a series
of storyboards for a film, following the events of Salomon's life. Art, texts
and musical references recreate a life scarred by family tragedy and Nazi
persecution, yet interspersed with intense happiness and love.
