"Richard Nagler Photography Competition for 2000"
2000-12-14 until 2001-02-15
Judah L. Magnes Museum
Berkeley, CA,
USA United States of America
The Judah L. Magnes Museum is very proud to present winning photographs from the
Second Annual Richard Nagler Photography Competition. This pioneering competition,
founded and encouraged by Richard Nagler in association
with the Film/Video/Photography department of the Magnes
Museum, is the first and only photography competition in the
world that is devoted exclusively to Jewish themes.
They began
the competition in order to support and address the needs of
the many photographers of merit, worldwide, for whom they
could not provide exhibitions. It is clear from the response,
(some 80 high-quality entries) that they have the support of
the photographic community in this project, and they will
endeavor to improve and expand in future competitions. The
winning photographs displayed here each represent a series
of photographs completed in the last three years.
Photographers were asked to provide 3-5 images from a
series, plus a written description of that series, for judging
purposes. Winning photographers received cash awards and
a certificate. Top winners are also featured in an exhibit at
the Magnes Museum.
