The OPulent Eye of Alexander Girardis the first major retrospective to explore the
work of Alexander Girard (1907-1993), one of the most innovative American
designers of the twentieth century.
His stores, showrooms, exhibitions, and houses
introduced modern design to millions of Americans, while his restaurants dazzled
the public with their theatricality. The exhibition taps into today's intense
fascination with mid-century architecture and design as well as growing interest in
Girard.
