Media & Visual Arts, The Banff Centre for the Arts, is excepting applications for following creative residencies:
The Sporting Life, Slo Mo, and Self-Directed.
The Sporting Life
In keeping with the Olympian spirit of healthy mind in a healthy body, the theme of the first Media & Visual Arts thematic residency in 2001 is sports. The residency will reflect not on specific games or competitions, but on those subjects with sports that jump the hurdles and cross the lines.

Slo Mo
Slo Mo focuses on time and artists’ approaches to the use of time in their practices. Time is always on our minds. Is time the fourth dimension, driving bodies and technologiesNULL Where does machine time end and the biological clock beginNULL Is time only mindNULL What are its limitsNULL Our sense of time shifts with context, culture, measurement tools. It is apparent in painting, ceramics, printmaking as well as photography and new media based work.

Application Deadline: Feb 15/01
Self-Directed
Through self-directed residencies, artists are provided with opportunities to make new works and research creative concepts, ideas and theories. Application deadlines are ongoing and it is possible to come for a self-directed residency throughout the year, unlike thematic residencies, which have pre-determined and fixed dates.
