"Luca Buvoli: Flying--Practical Training for Beginners"
2001-01-31 until 2001-02-04
Austin Museum of Art
Austin, TX, USA

Luca Buvoli's newest project, Flying--Practical Training for Beginners, will be presented as fourth exhibition in the Museum's New Works Series. An Italian artist based in New York, Buvoli has become known for his eccentric, sometimes whimsical drawings, sculpture, installations and animated films based on comic book characters.

In this exhibition, which includes his latest animated film as well as sculptural displays and hand-drawn diagrams, Buvoli explores one of man's most ancient dreams, the ability to fly without the aid of mechanical devices. For this body of work, the artist has drawn upon varied sources for inspiration and information, including his experience as a competitive swimmer; the study of religion, meditation, and science; and his father's air force experience. Organized by the MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and curated by Jane Farver, Director.
