"The Defining Moment: Victorian Narrative Paintings from the FORBES Magazine Collection"
2001-02-06 until 2001-05-22
Tampa Museum of Art
Tampa, FL, USA United States of America

Drawn from an internationally recognized collection of Victorian paintings assembled by Christopher Forbes and currently held in Old Battersea House in London, the exhibition includes some of the most eminent artists of the era: the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millias and Royal Academicians like William Powell Frith, Richard Redgrave, James J. Tissot, and Frank Holl.

Each painting attempts to capture a particular dramatic moment in time and exemplifies the nineteenth-century British fascination for narrative paintings. This exhibition is organized and circulated by the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC. Presented by Royal and SunAlliance. Support for this exhibition locally is provided by the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners.
