"Shawn Gurczak - The Learning Mirror: Social Disorders and Children"
2001-02-10 until 2001-03-03
Mobius
Boston, MA, USA

The Learning Mirror invites us to view the world from behind the eyes of a dyslexic, and imagine a society that would celebrate learning disorders as artistic talents rather than disabilities. The installation will consist of stylized characters that represent the different aspects of the creative process, learning and self-expression.

I trust you to share the secret of my childhood experience of growing up with an artist's perspective, in a world that categorized me as 'disabled.' I regard this work, alone, is proof of my argument - that a learning disorder can be a form of artistic genius. - Shawn Gurczak

At the opening on February 10, a talk on learning disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) will start the show. The opening will be followed by a celebration with music.
