"Lens and Paper: the Loudon collection"
2001-02-10 until 2001-02-15
Gemeentemuseum Den Haag
Den Haag, ,
NL Netherlands
Lens and Paper offers a snapshot view of contemporary art today. The
emphasis is on drawings and works made with the help of lenses:
photographs, film and video. Guest curator Carel Balth has selected work
by over 50 international artists from the Loudon collection.
His choice includes: drawings by artists such as René Daniëls (NL), Chris Ofili (GB)
and Patrick van Caeckenbergh (B); photographs by Alicia Framis (S),
Rineke Dijkstra (NL), Richard Prince (U.S.) and others; and films, videos
and video stills by Mariko Mori (J), Pippi Lotti Rist (CH) and Marijke van
Warmerdam (NL), to name just a few. His choice of works is inspired by the
idea of 'the beauty of intimacy'. This intimacy can be experienced not just
in the small-scale works but also in those of larger dimensions. The
exhibition is accompanied by an English-language catalogue
