"Reservations Now Being Accepted for Summer 2001 Workshops in France"
2001-04-20 until 2001-10-31
Vitra Design Museum
Weil am Rhein, , DE Germany

In cooperation with the Centre George Pompidou, Paris, and the Centre International de Recherche et d'Education Culturelle et Agricole (C.I.R.E.C.A.), Vitra Design Museum is offering workshops conducted by internationally famous designers and architects. The workshops will be held at Domaine de Boisbuchet, an historical country estate in the south west of France (Lessac, Poitou-Charente).

In the period from July 02 – September 09, 2001 two workshops per week (Monday through Sunday) will be taking place. These seminars will focus on practical work. Complementary lectures and discussions will also be provided. Our 2001 workshops will be conducted by: Shigeru Ban (Japan), Ingo Maurer (Germany), Marcel Wanders (Netherlands), Hans Hansen (Germany), Janice Kirkpatrick (Great Britain), Toshiyuki Kita (Japan), Maarten van Severen (Belgium), Matali Crasset (France), Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec (France), Claesson Koivisto Rune (Sweden), Atelier OÏ (Switerland), Olgoj Chorchoj (Czech Republic) and many others.

The courses on offer are highly varied, with topics ranging from the fields of architecture and interior decoration to object design, furniture design and even photography. The workshops will both be addressing open questions and tackling concrete projects. Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, for example, will be putting up a building made of cardboard and paper. Toshiyuki Kita is also fascinated by these materials, and will be devoting himself to coming up with innovative design ideas for them. Vladimir Kagan will be looking at game design, and André Dubreuil designing items of furniture from concrete reinforcing iron. Ingo Maurer will be looking for a creative approach to the subject of light, and photographer Hans Hansen investigating various possibilities of portraying time in images.

The courses will be taking place at Domaine de Boisbuchet, an idyllic 19th century country estate. With its extensive, park-like grounds, the Domaine offers not only ideal surroundings for the workshops, but also a number of attractive leisure pursuits such as canoeing on the river Vienne, swimming in the estate's own lake etc.

Participants will be lodged in simply but comfortably furnished dormitories. Single and double rooms are also available at an extra charge.

The cost of a one-week workshop including lodging, full board, course fees and materials is EUR 575.- for students, and EUR 750.- for all other participants (all prices exclusive of travel costs). The courses are open provisionally to participants from 18 years upwards.
