"Schedule Available: Summer Retreats for Fine Artists and Creative Writers"
2001-07-22 until 2001-08-04
Centauri Arts
Toronto, ON, CA Canada

This summer Centauri Arts will be running Fine Art and Creative Writing courses in a residential retreat for adults! Centauri's courses take place in an idyllic rural retreat in the Kawarthas, Ontario, Canada. Courses in poetry, prose, short story writing, novel writing, painting and drawing offer writers and artists the perfect creative perspective, regardless of their level of experience. Work with some of Canada's respected writers and artists as you develop your craft in a retreat environment far from the bustle of city life.

Course include:
Exploring the Visual Metaphor - 22 July to 28 July 2001
Examine the manner in which a single metaphor or idea can germinate into divergent works of art. Participants select and work with an idea or object which has personal significance, expressing it in contrasting ways. Structured classes provide technical and creative support as all artists create a series of works-in-progress to reflect their theme. Written and visual materials are used to provoke thought and stimulate ideas. This course is intended for artists of all experience levels who wish to experiment with new styles and challenge  themselves to see art in fresh ways.

Course tutor: Frances Ferdinands is a Toronto artist who has exhibited in Canada, America and overseas. Her work appears in dozens of public and private collections. Frances often works in series; her recent collection 'Adrift' can be seen in the V. MacDonnell Gallery, Toronto, in April.

The Human Art - 29 July to 4 Aug 2001
Painting and Drawing offer a route to self-discovery. In the choices made, an artist unlocks the secret of what it means to be human. Participants are encouraged to identify and express the uniqueness of their world vision, through structured art classes, discussion and individual work. Experiment with various media, or work in a medium of your choosing. In the piece you create, you will explore ideas emerging from the course and express truths about yourself, your life philosophies, or the people in your world.

Course Tutor: Sarah Merry studied Art in Nova Scotia, at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, and the Slade School of Fine Art in London, UK. Her work has been represented in many solo and group exhibitions and appears in collections in Canada, the USA and England.
