"Design of Our Time opens series of decorative arts exhibitons"
2001-02-25 until 2001-05-13

Over the past decade, the field of design has changed dramatically. Public
awareness of design is increasing, drawing new talent to the field.
Advances in technology and the increased availability of fine design in the
marketplace have added to the creative energy of the 1990s.
This heightened visibility challenges international designers to create useful
objects that both respond to cultural needs and provide stylish solutions for
modern living. Design of Our Time celebrates this period of dynamic
change. The exhibition showcases highly individual forms that often
incorporate fluid shapes and eye-catching color—forms that are not bound
by traditional ideas of function. Furniture, lighting, and other objects in the
exhibition are drawn primarily from the museum’s collection, and most are on
view for the first time.
