Theodore Waddell: A Retrospective, 1960-2000, the first major retrospective of one of the West's leading contemporary artists. Included in the exhibition are more than 80 works spanning Waddell's career from the early paintings and minimalist sculpture of the 1960s, to recent large-scale, richly-colored, impastoed canvases that evoke both the later works of Claude Monet and Abstract Expressionists such as de Kooning, Pollock, and Francis Bacon.
Theodore Waddell has long been recognized as one of Montana's most important contemporary artists - one who has played a significant role in the development of late modernism in Montana and the West. His intimate relationship to the land and people of the West, and his unique expression of that relationship, have long warranted this major traveling retrospective exhibition and catalog.
