"Points of Departure: Connecting with Contemporary Art"
2001-03-23 until 2001-10-16
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
San Francisco, CA,
USA
Points of Departure takes a fresh curatorial approach to approximately 60 works from SFMOMA's permanent collection, including many recent acquisitions. The exhibition groups works by such artists as Louise Bourgeois, Eva Hesse, Jenny
Holzer, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Cy Twombly and Andy Warhol into six thematic sections: brushwork, found objects, grid, language, line and style. Points of Departure will also serve as a pilot program for the use of new,
experimental technologies for educational and interpretive purposes. Inside the
galleries, interactive Smart Tables present commentary on the exhibition's themes
and video clips of artists discussing their work. In addition, a Make Your Own
Gallery game and an expanded Making Sense of Modern Art--the Museum's
multimedia guide to modern and contemporary art--are available at special kiosks.
