Indepth Arts News:
"ARTNOW: Arthur Ganson"
2001-03-24 until 2001-06-03
Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
Montgomery, AL,
USA
Sculptor/engineer Arthur Ganson finds art in both his mind and in his toolbox,
creating elaborately designed kinetic works that spring from his long-standing
attraction to the mechanical. Ganson uses all types of materials associated
with the machine - from sprockets to springs to bicycle chains - and combines
them with elements of the absurd - a feather duster, for instance - to create
art that is, literally, moving.
This ARTNOW exhibition will feature about twenty
works by Ganson, whose art has been called, pure aesthetic whimsy, as
rendered by delicately engineered gears, gizmos, wheels and wires.
