"PRINTS CHARMING: 20th Century Prints"

This year's first 20th Century Prints sale to be held at Christie's features an array of works by American and Continental modern masters, such as Picasso, Chagall, Warhol, Sonia Delaunay, Braque and De Chirico. A section devoted entirely to British 20th century artwork will include works by greats such as Lucien Freud, Bridget Riley, Allen Jones and Elizabeth Frink. Estimates in the sale will range from 300 to 5,000 pounds.

Two etchings printed with tone by Lucien Freud will be on offer in the British section of the sale, Man Resting (1988) may fetch up to £4,000 while Two men in the Studio (1989) carries an estimate of £1,000-1,200. An image from The Museum Tour Suite by Bridget Riley (1971) also features and carries an estimate of £1,200-1,400.

Victor Pasmore's The Pulse (1986), an aquatint and colour, carries an estimate of £800-1,000. Of particular interest to Londoners will be a linocut and colour depicting Bank Underground Station. This work by Cyril Power is a fine example of the Grovenor School. Entitled The Tube Station (1932), it is expected to fetch up to £3,000.

The American and Continental section offers a wide variety of artwork including a 1976 screenprint in pink, purple and black by Andy Warhol simply entitled Cow, which is estimated at £1,000-2,000 and a signed drypoint print by Pablo Picasso, Enlévement (1968) (estimate: £1,000-1,500). Elsewhere a 1946 Henri Matisse lithograph, Tritan Tzara: Le Signe de Vie, is expected to fetch between £1,000-1,500 while The Bible (1958), an etching with hand colouring by Marc Chagall, carries an estimate of £1,200-£1,600.

Also on offer is an aquatint and drypoint by Georges Rouault entitled Miserere: En ces temps noirs de jactance et d'incroyance (1927) (estimate: £700-900), while a piece by Georges Braque, Nature morte aux citrons, a lithograph in colour, is expected to fetch up to £1,600. Two colour lithographs by Sonia Delauney entitled Thunderbird (1974) and Lozenges (1973) will also feature - both carry estimates of £500-700.
