"Plastic by Nature: A Sculptural Installation by Gordon Froud "

Gordon Froud uses plastic cups and plates to create an installation entitled Plastic by Nature (a found title). The artist assembles a unique selection of found objects to sculpt his work. The exhibtion is to be opened by Neels Coetzee at 2:00pm Saturday 21 April 2001. Gordelroos Productions will stage a performance. Please join Nordic Ice for a complimentary cocktail at the opening.

GORDON FROUD, born Johannesburg 1963, graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1987 with a B A Fine Art Honours and a Higher Diploma in Education. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and competitions, both locally and internationally, since 1982. From 1993 he has curated many group exhibitions around South Africa. He is the recipient of several art awards and prizes, such as merit awards for the Volkskas Atelier competition, the Kempton Park Art competition, the PPC Cement sculpture competition and the New Signatures competition, i.a.In 1997 he was awarded the Ampersand Foundation Fellowship to spend three months in New York. His work is represented in a variety of public art collections in South Africa, including the Pretoria Art Museum, Unisa Art Gallery, ABSA Bank and Sandton Civic Gallery. Currently he lectures in Sculpture at Pretoria University.
