"Intimate Worlds: Masterpieces of Indian Painting from the Alvin O. Bellak Collection"

The collection of Dr. Alvin O. Bellak constitutes one of the finest private
collections of Indian miniature paintings in the world. This exhibition of
90 paintings and drawings marks the first time that the collection - which
Dr. Bellak has generously promised to the Museum - has been shown in its
entirety.
Painted in vibrant, opaque watercolors on paper, highlighted with
gold, and polished to a lustrous surface, most of the works on view were
originally parts of illuminated manuscripts or loosely bound series created
for private enjoyment or pious devotion.
