"IDEA TO REALITY - A GRANT WRITING FORUM & PRACTICAL WORKSHOP"
2001-06-02 until 2001-06-02
Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane
Brisbane, QL, AU

Brisbane Powerhouse and Brisbane City Council are presenting Switch On, a series of arts industry forums, discussions and workshops throughout 2001. Idea to Reality is the second forum/workshop in this series. Idea to Reality will focus on skills development, discussion and practical workshop in the art of grant writing. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to apply for an arts grant as either a first time applicant or a previously unsuccessful applicant (including young and emerging artists, experienced artists, community organisations) to learn some of the tools of the trade necessary to improve your chances of success in seeking financial assistance from funding bodies.

Objectives of the forum/workshop is to give participants:
* overview information regarding the arts grants that are available;
* critical success/failure factors;
* general advice for planning and writing applications;
* practical experience in writing various application components

PROPOSED FORMAT
Following an introduction from Zane Trow, Artistic Director Brisbane Powerhouse, each of guest speakers from the three major funding bodies (Scot O'Hara, Australia Council; an Arts Queensland representative; and Glenda Johnson, Brisbane City Council) will give a brief overview of the grants that are available then focus on briefly listing what are the critical success and failure factors in being granted funding.

There will then be an overview of some general advice in terms of preparing a good application before breaking into groups to, given a hypothetical project scenario, discuss and prepare one component of an application using a hybridised form presented earlier. Components will include: Detailed Project Budget; Project Description (to include description, history/background, rationale, objectives, benefits, ability to manage/deliver, timeline); and Project Support Material, Personnel (roles & responsibilities), Grant Writing Timelines and Strategy. These sessions will be facilitated by the guest speakers.

Each of the 3 groups then returns and reports back what they've come up with before opening the floor to questions & further discussion.

Morning Tea will be offered during a break in the forum/workshop.
