"Miles Draws: The Art of Miles Davis"
2001-05-25 until 2001-07-28
Forum for Contemporary Art
St. Louis, MO, USA

Concentrating on works created in the 1980's, Miles Draws at the Forum for Contemporary Art will illustrate a creative side of the legendary musician not often seen. Davis began to draw after he suffered a mild stroke in the late 70's.

His doctor prescribed drawing as a way to regain the use of his fingers. From that moment on he drew constantly and obsessively, drawing on everything from sketchbooks to hotel notepads to scrapes of paper and even the cardboard of his shirt boxes. Davis‚ drawing style is both fluid and aggressive, epitomizing his musical as well as his personal attitude

The Missouri Historical Society just opened a major exhibition documenting the life of jazz legend, Miles Davis. Numerous organizations, including the Forum for Contemporary Art, are presenting complimentary programs in collaboration with the Historical Society's exhibition.
