"Needlework from the Nineteenth Century"
2001-05-26 until 2001-10-30
Philadelphia Museum of Art
Philadelphia, PA, USA

The changing aesthetics of the 19th century are reflected in the diversity of needlework techniques which decorated household textiles, garments and accessories, including delicate whitework early in the century, opulent high Victorian Berlin wool work, and aesthetic period art needlework.

Needlework from the Nineteenth Century highlights the artistic talent and technical skill of the needlewomen of the century. It features embellished objects such as embroidered dresses from both the neo-classical and bustle periods, a selection of samplers and schoolgirl embroidery, an appliqué Baltimore album quilt, and an embroidered patchwork quilt.
