"Marisol"
2001-06-17 until 2001-09-02
Neuberger Museum of Art
Purchase, NY,
USA
The Neuberger Museum of Art proudly presents selections from this distinguished
sculptor's achievements since the 1950s. The exhibition highlights the artist's major
works, some of which have been viewed fleetingly in this country or not at all. Individual
large-scale assemblages of forms bespeak Marisol's long-term devotion to figurative
motifs that have been realized through a combination of techniques--drawing, painting,
carving and constructing.
Humor and pathos are reflected in her lively and engaging
wood and mixed-media sculpture, indicating this artist's talents and abilities to capture a
wide range of subjects and feelings as well as her sharp wit and penetrating vision. An
illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition, which is curated by Judy Collischan,
Ph.D., Neuberger Museum of Art Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs. Funded, in
part, by the New York State Council for the Arts and the Richard Florsheim Art Fund.
