"Katrina Lodge: Selected Works"

Katrina Lodge's paintings are two-dimensional representations
of the remarkable three-dimensional characteristics of color's
behavior. An investigation that she has pursued for over a decade
and it is foreseen that it will continue for at least another
as the relationships between colors are inexhaustible in their
variations. A similar situation is found in the obvious complexity
of human relationships and their infinite combinations, hence
making her prismatic abstractions a very real reflection of reality. A vision between abstraction and realism is too often made and
the work attempts to lessen that distance using the medium of
color.
Lodge's work of spectral abstraction stems from early modern
abstraction with major influences from Russian Constructivism
and Suprematism, Op art pioneer Victor Vasarelly and the work
of Bridget Riley. Parallel influences from Eastern textiles and
religions have also been a source of interest along with the
acknowledgement of the enormous complexity of the human spirit
and psyche. The works address these concepts with a kindred
friendliness and lightness of being that explores the language
of abstraction in decorative surface.
The process of making these paintings is simple and cyclical.
Each painting provides the basis for the next. It is a continuous
action where there is no exact beginning or end but an on going
commitment to the understanding and observation of the tools
of vision. The painting's simple constructions allow the quintessential
elements of sight and color to perform their theater on the canvas'
stage. Greek drama, ballet and symphonies are all present in
the versatility of these paintings. Each having its own energy
and variations of vibrancy. These often screaming arrangements
arrive at loud harmonies of chromatic sensations, each the result
of the same inquiry with different juxtapositions. Their produce
being variable degrees of static and dynamic pulsation and movement
that then lead to further, more informed inquiries and in a sense,
the utopian ideals of subsistence are practiced............the
circle reigns.
