Contrasting her fine craft with unlikely materials such as knitting and chewing gum, along with the use of text, Kennedy plays off the functional and decorative components of her work as a means of inquiry into the point at which art, craft and design converge. The objects in this exhibition are recognisable as furniture yet all query, with an innate sense of humour, their own purpose.
Platform is the life of furniture beyond its design.
Graduating from the Canberra School of Art, Wood Workshop in 1996, Lyndall Kennedy spent the next two years in Japan. This exhibition at CCAS Manuka is her first solo show.
