2001-06-23 until 2001-08-19
Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
Montgomery, AL,
USA
Collaborations between writers and artists are often a source of intensely
creative artistic expression. In this exhibition of fifty lithographs and etchings
by Robert Motherwell and Jasper Johns, the viewer will enjoy the
partnerships of the artist and writer, conveyed through the prints of two
major twentieth-century masters.
Motherwell's works are based on poems by
Rafael Alberti, and Johns' are collaborations with novelist and playwright
Samuel Beckett. Both artists have played dominant roles in the development
and maturation of twentieth-century contemporary art developing out of
Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, and Minimalism.
