"Kabinet Overholland - Jean Dubuffet"
2001-06-30 until 2001-08-26
Stedelijk Museum
Amsterdam, , NL

Sixty drawings, watercolours, gouaches and collages from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art are at the heart of the exhibition Jean Dubuffet. These works have never previously been seen outside America. They afford a profile of the high points in the oeuvre of the French artist Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985). At the same time a selection of his graphics and artist's books from the Stedelijk's own collection will be shown.

The presentation is supplemented by 14 paintings and a sculpture, and with work by his contemporaries from the École de Paris. The 60 works on paper from the MoMA collection show his experiments with a graffiti-like style, with chance techniques and -- principally after 1960 -- with primary colours and abstract patterns. The supplementary works from the Stedelijk -- his paintings, graphics and books -- make the whole a unique survey of his oeuvre, both with regard to his pictural views and his experiments. The exhibitons runs through August 26, 2001.
