"Stranger Passing: Collected Portraits by Joel Sternfeld"
2001-07-06 until 2001-10-02
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
San Francisco, CA, USA

For the past 15 years, renowned photographer Joel Sternfeld has traveled the United States photographing the American landscape and its people. Authentic, ironic and sensitive, the resulting portraits -- modern-day twists on the work of Walker Evans, Robert Frank and August Sander -- document the diverse realities and circumstances of our times.

Organized by SFMOMA, Stranger Passing presents 60 large-format color photographs that reveal the complexities of contemporary American society with rare wit and insight.
