"Shoot: Australian Photography from the Corrigan collection"
2001-07-13 until 2001-08-19
Gold Coast City Art Gallery
Gold Coast, QL,

Drawn from the extensive photographic collection of Pat and Barbara Corrigan, Shoot! features the best of contemporary photographic practice from some of Australia's most important artists.
Photography has recently enjoyed a huge resurgence in Australia and this exhibition will provide a wonderful opportunity to explore some of the country's most innovative photographers.
Shoot features work by Cherine Fahd, Simryn Gill, Bill Henson, Annie Hogan, Rosemary Laing, Deborah Paauwe and Patricia Piccinini.
Shoot! will be an exhibition to challenge ideas about photography and its role in visual arts practice.
Gold Coast City Art Gallery Curator, Brett Adlington said, “Photographically the term ‘shoot’ implies an image that is hastily taken, in the vein of Robert Doisneau and other such photo-journalists. These photographers used the camera to respond to the environment around them, documenting events as they happened, in the hope of somehow challenging the way the world was perceived. Much contemporary photography has challenged this notion of the camera being used to solely record, with many artists using a camera merely as a tool in their artistic practice. Works are highly composed, arranged and mapped out before the image is ‘shot’.”
