"Robert Macpherson: A Comprehensive Survey of Work"
2001-07-13 until 2001-10-21
Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney
Sydney, , AU Australia

The most comprehensive survey of the work of Robert Macpherson, one of Australia's most revered contemporary artists. Macpherson's work is bold, accessible, humorous and beautiful. Born in Queensland in 1937, Macpherson's art utilises the rich and colourful culture of his rural childhood and the high-art sensibilities of the great American artists he discovered in magazines and books in his youth.

The language of roadside signage, fruit and vegetable shops, street hobos and car enthusiasts is expressed in Macpherson's paintings, installations and sculptural works, which are regarded highly by international curators and collectors while remaining intensely local and distinctly Australian.
