"Estiu 2001, Two Exhibitions: Lluis Vila and Copper, Ink, Paper and Pressure"
2001-07-28 until 2001-08-19
Michael Dunev Art Projects
Torroella de Montgri, , ES Spain

The exhibition space at Michael Dunev Art Projects is pleased to present, within it’s exhibition programme, Estiu 2001, two simultaneous exhibitions: the recent work of painter/sculptor Lluis Vilą and a selection of etchings and works on paper, titled Copper, Ink, Paper and Pressure.

Born and raised in the province of Girona, Lluķs Vilą is a native upon whom the Ampurdanese landscape has left but little impact. His paintings on paper reflect a personal vision imbued with a private language that generates the amorphous shapes he titles Logos. This reference to the Greek word that is the source of reason, speech and the means of communication, reflects Vilą’s conviction of art’s power to communicate. Quintessentially Mediterranean, Vilą’s work is created by hand with the everyday materials employed by farmers on their fields and to add pigment to their homes: oxides and sulphates of copper and iron. While the work is deceptively simple at first glance, it carries the weight of history and is marked by the passing of time and the civilizations that have lived in this ageless land. Together with the works on paper the exhibition will include a selection of recent sculpture by the artist.

The exhibition Copper, Ink, Paper and Pressure will present a selection of etchings and works on paper produced mainly in the printmaking workshops of Joan and Tristan Barbarą. Included in the exhibition will be works by the following artists: Riera i Aragó, Miquel Barceló, Victor Mira, Jaume Plensa, Emil Schumacher y Antoni Tąpies.

Tristan Barbarą represents the second generation of a respected family of printers-publishers that has lifted printmaking to priviledged heights. Working with the most renown contemporary artists, Barbarą has been able to give the etchings all the subtleties and characteristics that each artist has brought to the medium, creating works of rich artistic variety with extraordinary technical qualities. We have selected for this exhibition a small sampling of the powerful collaboration that exists between those artists closely linked with this area and the workshop that has been, for half a century, producing works of invaluable artistic integrity.

The exhibitions Lluis Vilą and Copper, Ink, Paper and Pressure will open on Saturday, 28 de July and will continue until 19 August. Michael Dunev Art Projects is located on the Costa Brava, in Torroella de Montgrķ (Baix Empordą), on Carrer Major, 28. In addition to the organization of art exhibits throughout the year, the space publishes works of art and invites international artists to creative projects in our studios. The gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays, from 6 – 9 PM; Sundays and Mondays, 11 – 2 and by appointment.
