"

Applications are called from artists and printmakers from
around the world who are interested in spending two months
in Autumn 2002 studying and practicing Japanese techniques
of woodblock printmaking in the beautiful Nagasawa area of
Japan (Tsuna Town, Awaji Island).
The Nagasawa Art Park Artist-in-Residence, which has been
held annually since 1997 with the support of various
institutions including The Agency for Cultural Affairs, the
Japan Foundation and Tsuna Town, provides one of the only
opportunities for international artists to study the
traditional techniques of woodblock printmaking in Japan. To
date, a total of 19 artists have participated, and this year
we will welcome 11 artists from countries such as diverse as
Brazil, Iceland, Australia, the U.K. and India.
In 2002 the program will take place from 20 September to 20
November (precise dates to be confirmed). 6 to 8 artists
will embark on their own (guided) production after receiving
instruction from specialist carvers and printers. Artists
will be invited on one of two separate plans, the
Full-Support Plan (where all expenses, including airfare,
will be paid for) or the Partial Support Plan (where a
portion of expenses will be paid for by the artist). The
deadline for applications is 30 November 2001. It is planned
that successful applicants will be announced in late January
2002.
