Prefix Photo, Canadas only national magazine of contemporary photography, is seeking a part-time Managing Editor. Founded in 1999, Prefix Photo is an award-winning magazine dedicated to the presentation and interpretation of contemporary Canadian photography and related arts. Characterized by innovative design and outstanding production values, Prefix Photo features photography portfolios and critical essays, providing a complement of intelligent texts and breath-taking visuals.

These features are supported by a newsbriefs section with information on opportunities for professional photographers, including announcements of exhibition opportunities and new technologies. Bold, refreshing and unconventional, Prefix Photo speaks to Canadians and the rest of the world about the many ways we choose to picture ourselves. With its studio at 401 Richmond Street West in the heart of Torontos art community, Prefix Photo provides its staff with the opportunity to participate in an exciting, growing organization in a dynamic arts environment.

The Managing Editor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the magazine, including artist and writer liaison; submissions processing and reviewing; subscription fulfillment; circulation management; volunteer supervision; and general administration. The Managing Editor will assist the Director of Sales and Marketing with promotional efforts; will assist the Editor/Publisher with research and production management; and will report to the Editor/Publisher.

The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

strong organizational skills
excellent verbal and written communication skills
computer literacy
efficient, motivated and self-directed
responsible and reliable

Assets include:

publishing and/or design experience
fluency in French
an interest in photography and related arts

This is a part-time, freelance position with a one-year renewable contract. The position requires 21 hours per week, with flexible scheduling, and is compensated at a rate of $15 per hour.
