"Terize Formanowski Cascades into Colour"
2001-08-11 until 2001-09-23
Cairns Regional Gallery
Cairns, QL, AU

Cairns artist Terize Formanowski cascades into colour for her new exhibition now on show at Cairns Regional Gallery. Formanowski, a long-term Cairns resident, has combined sculptural work with digital media, light boxes and acrylic paintings to produce Cascading into Colour, an exhibition designed to promote awareness of the impact of colour on day-to-day life.

Formanowski, who completed Honours in a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree at James Cook University last year, said her latest exhibition was an extension on previous works, and had been tailored to the space at Cairns Regional Gallery.

The majority of the pieces in this exhibition have been tailored to suit the spaces of the Gallery, using the spaces and dimensions of the walls to create a most visually stimulating exhibition, Ms Formanowski said.

Using a combination of pearlescent paints and acrylics painted on to abstract canvas shapes, the artist's work has a strong emphasis on light and it's interaction with colour.

My work is pretty playful, it's not too serious ... it's made for people to understand the impact colours can have on your emotions ... to allow them to feel the vibrations of the colours, she said.

Formanowski has drawn on research from her thesis, Uplifting the soul; colour healing and aesthetic pleasure in the new millennium, to create the academic motivation behind the exhibition.

Colours are an energy, they have energy fields like people have auras, so through this exhibition I am trying to show people how powerful colour can be in affecting your emotions, she said.

Cascading into Colour represents a level of both personal and professional development for the artist, with artworks a progression on those featured in Formanowski's last exhibition, Light Plus Colour Equals Energy, which was held at the Umbrella Studios in Townsville last year.

Terize Formanowski is supported by local arts organisation KickArts, and Cascading into Colour has been financially assisted by the Queensland Government through the Queensland Community Assistance Program of the Centenary of Federation Queensland.

Cascading into Colour will be officially opened at Cairns Regional Gallery on Saturday August 11th at 3.00pm by Mayor of Cairns, Cr Kevin Byrne. The artist will be in attendance. It will be on show in the Loft Gallery until September 23rd.
