conceptual installations, narratives and abstracts all go to make up this years art of the STITCH.
59 Contemporary artists from 8 countries including the USA, Japan, Germany and Sweden have been selected to
participate in the fourth International Open Exhibition, art of the STITCH 2001, from the Embroiderers Guild.
The
selection panel, including Audrey Walker M.B.E. and Rachael Howard, chose from over 750 entries by 462 artists
from 34 countries around the world, to make this a dynamic collection of the best in international, contemporary
stitched work.
The exhibition constitutes the fourth biennal International Open Exhibition by the
Embroiderers Guild in association with Coates Crafts UK. The exhibition offers an
opportunity to textile artists to be recognised internationally as the producers of good
contemporary embroidery and design. Art of the Stitch is shown in conjunction with
Generation, an Embroiderers Guild Touring Exhibition of work by four contemporary artists
commissioned to respond to an embroidery from the Guilds 11,000 piece collection.
