Indepth Arts News: "French Master Drawings from the Collection of Muriel Butkin" 2001-08-26 until 2001-10-28 Cleveland Museum of Art Cleveland, OH, USA
Muriel Butkin of Cleveland has been collecting French drawings extensively for more than 25 years. This exhibition of 59 works features the best sheets from the more than 400 she owns. Almost all of the drawings are from the 18th and 19th centuries.
They include works by such well-known masters as François Boucher, Théodore Géricault, Jean-François Millet, and Edgar Degas. Many of these drawings are unknown to both the public and scholars, so this exhibition and its accompanying catalogue highlights for the first time a rich trove of French art. The works in the exhibition are a promised bequest to the CMA.
