"The Empire Series at the Empire State Building"
2001-08-31 until 2001-11-11
Empire State Building
New York, NY, USA United States of America

Powerful buildings, powerful art. The Empire Series at the Empire State Building is Ethel Lebenkoffs second solo exhibition in one of Manhattans supreme architectural achievements.

Says Ethel, When I first arrived in New York City, I could see the Empire State building from my studio window. I found the building beautiful. It was intimidating, and powerful. I began to develop a relationship with this edifice. I began playing with it, anticipating its color changes, and watching the way light fell on it. We began to watch each other. It watched me as I watched it. And thus the Empire Series was born - a Manhattan love story. Even though Ive moved away, the empire and I still smile at each other.

As you can see, Ethel is a very playful artist. Ethels paintings bring the size and strength of the empire state building to a human level, allowing the building to take on its own persona. One begins to feel empathy for the building and the power bestowed upon it.
