"New American Talent 16: Organized by the Texas Fine Arts Association (TFAA)"
2001-09-05 until 2001-11-03
Arlington Museum of Art
Arlington, TX, USA United States of America

The Arlington Museum of Art is honored to bring the sixteenth annual New American Talent exhibition organized by the Texas Fine Arts Association (TFAA) to the north Texas area. Anne Umland, Associate Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, acted as this year's juror, reviewing entries from over 900 artists nationwide. She describes the selected group of works as between figuration and abstraction, readymades and handmades, monumentality and miniaturization, between photography, painting, sculptures, collage, embroidery, and various hybrids in between.

Umland states that far from a comprehensive picture of a particular moment in 21st century art…what is captured here are a series of distinctive instances of artistic expression in the making, as represented by 32 different artists working in the United States today. Ten of the 32 selected are from Texas. This traveling exhibition provides a unique and far-reaching venue for our state's contemporary artists. Sue Graze, Executive Director of TFAA, describes the show as a vibrant, intelligent and visually explosive presentation.

This exhibition is part of the TFAA Art on Tour program, which presents works from TFAA exhibitions to viewers across Texas each year. With New American Talent 16, TFAA continues to build its reputation for developing shows of excellent quality, and for anticipating critical trends in contemporary art. By bringing contemporary art to diverse audiences, Art on Tour promotes the broad experience of art, and encourages artistic growth in Texas.
