"Documenta USA: 1,000 Artists from 35 Countries"

The largest Art Exposition in the world is coming home to America‚s newest
museum. And when it does, DOCUMENTA USA will invite the viewer to rethink the
familiar in art and to imagine all its possibilities. DOCUMENTA USA is all those materials that are used to decide an exhibition
(slides, postcards, biographies), and all those materials that remain once it
is gone (catalogues, critical reviews, interviews). In this manner, as an
unfiltered survey of the world‚s art, DOCUMENTA USA becomes an investigation
into what decides art, and at the same moment, who decides art: by allowing
the museum visitor to exercise that role for the first time without prejudice.
Documenting implies research, study and analysis, but it may also be raw,
emotional, and creative. It is defined as information gathering, but, at the
same time, the processing of information into something new. - the Tate

There is also a component of the exhibition where the visitor is encouraged
to not only touch, but actually handle the art created for this purpose by
such artists as Arman, Jenny Holzer, Peter Halley, Christo, Vito Acconci, and
over a hundred others.
Another component where the museum is open to any artist‚s work, as long as
it fits through the museum doors.
And finally, a video component, FIFTEEN, where the artists speak one on one
to the camera about their art.
DOCUMENTA USA will introduce its audience, not only to the best, but
potentially,
to all of new art. Condensed from its original 100 days, the exhibition will
totally
refresh and renew itself every 100 minutes. There are over one thousand
artists
participating, from thirty-five different countries.
