The tapestries exhibited represent a confluence of inspiration and ethnic backgrounds. Stories of music and dance are generated in Anna Kocherovsky's poetic tapestries. Ulrika Leander's works are often dreamscapes where architectural themes intertwine with a profusion of natural forms.
This exhibition offers an interesting view of two artists working within the same medium whose tapestries clearly represent two different schools and ethnic backgrounds, combining aesthetic celebration of mankind and nature.
Anna Kocherovsky, a graduate of the School of Visual Art in Moscow, discovered the beauty of tapestry when, at a young age, she visited Baltic castles and admired this venerable art form. Ms. Kocherovsky went on to study tapestry art at the University of Moscow. She moved to United States in 1989, and her work has been shown in numerous national and international exhibitions.
Ulrika Leander has a degree in Fiber Art and design from Stockholm, Sweden. Ms. Leander moved from Sweden to the U.S. in 1980 and is the founder of Contemporary Tapestry Weaving. She has been commissioned to design and weave tapestries for public buildings, private collections, churches and hospitals both in this country and in Europe.
